Madonna's hands

Madonna does not like her hands. She may dislike her left butt cheek too for all I know, but the fact that she's taken to wearing cycling gloves to the premiere of her latest film (W.E.) is a sure sign that it's her hands that are giving her the hump. It seems you can do a lot when it comes to the face, but when it comes to your hands - you might as well leaflet your birth certificate around the neighbourhood. The hands my ladies, do not lie. Neither does that feeling you get right at the end of the working day. Just before wine O'Clock when you're not sure you can hold out for just 'five more minutes'...

But back to the hands, or rather the back of your hands - which seem to lose their elasticity far too quickly. Not to mention knuckles so dry they could file your nails. And maybe sand down a kitchen table or two. Ouch.

I spend a lot of money on hardcore hand creams. And in that particular fairy tale world, I've kissed an awful lot of frogs, but at last now I think I've found a winner. A hero hand cream that will soften, soothe and rejuvenate my hands. And maybe Madonnas too. If she wants to borrow some.

Launched this month Elemis Pro Radiance Hand and Nail cream is the kind of quality product you might use on your face. It's not thick and gungey, if anything it feels worryingly light, but then sinks in straight away leaving a visibly less lined, more youthful hand. No really, I noticed a difference imeadiately.

The blurb says the cream... "targets age spots and skin crepiness and re-establishes skins moisture barrier to hep protect against external factors which dry the hands". It's from Elemis's new Spa@home range but at £22.00 for 100ml it's not for the fickle beauty buyer - this is an investment buy for someone who really does want to see a visible difference to the appearance and feel of their hands. Equally this would be a very kindly last minute gift from a partner (today) who knows that the way to a woman's heart is through small but properly indulgent beauty helpers.

So there you have it Madonnna. Kiss goodbye to the Tour de (hand) Frowns and hello soft twenty-something paws. Don't mention it.

I'm often complimented on my English rose complexion here in the States, but boy do my hands piss me off. Same body yet obviously born a hundred years apart. I feel very sorry for Madonna - she is ridiculed when she goes out sans gloves ("Oh my god, look at those shriveled up hands)", and now looks ridiculous covering them up all the time.

@Toni : I don't mind a wizened hand. As long as it still moves. Also it's amazing what big cocktail rings, well executed nail polish and cashmere wrist warmers do for your hand's sense of 'self-worth'.

I had a million spots removed from my hands and yet they still look older than my face and my boobs!

Silly Madonna. You know who DOES like her own hands? Angelina Jolie! Have you ever seen 'em? They look like the hands of a 90 year old Grim Reaper...and yet, she loves them. It's all about attitude, I suppose. Got any good Boob Cream over there you can share?

@The Bearded Iris: I have tried a lot of boob cream but beyond perking the skin up, I think if you have a weighty breast, cream is never gonna work. I take a leaf from SJP's book and sleep in a comfy bra - it's the only way to avoid statement wrinkles. A bonus if that you will always look like a bit of an actress doing a sex scene in a PG rated movie. Huzzah!
