Pinterest: Better than a Valentine

I've been sitting with my little Microsoft Word document open all evening. I've stared at it, I've closed it, opened it, had a drink... I have a post to write after all. It's very important! You must feel a bit more important just reading that, right? It's not writer's block that's kept me from writing-it's my new online love and main distraction.

I have a confession to make. Usually Twitter has my heart; and by heart I mean attention, free time and undying-devotion. But lately I have been pinning.

Are you on Pinterest yet? If so, let's canoodle. If not, maybe the rest of this post will convince you to give it a go.

I admit, I'm later than some to the party. I was under the mistaken assumption that it was for compiling lists of crap you wanted. I'm not that into window shopping, I missed that gene.

But you know what I love? Food. Recipes. Cook books. Pictures of food. Turns out Pinterest is really good for that. I can sit at home, watch the pins roll in and cut my internet food surfing time, cookbook flicking time and food channel gazing time into a fraction of its previous hugeness.

Pinterest is my food porn central station. If you're not into food, think of what you're passionate about. Fashion? Design? Books? Travel? Anything that comes with a picture and you can pin it. Holy crap! It's like to-do lists and bucket lists combined and dumbed down for the laziest of the lazies. Oh yeah, baby. Now you're talkin' my language.

I am left wondering, if blogging was reduced to 140 characters by Twitter and Twitter was reduced to image grabs by Pinterest... what will the next step be? Before we bypass thought all together, let's stick a pin in it-literally (or would it be digitally?). What about you, are you on Pinterest? What are your thoughts on it?

I love Pinterest and I'm addicted. I have an insanely stupid amount of boards and pins. Over 1500 pins. I mean really? When am I ever going to do this stuff? But I love it.

I am a fairly recent addition. I love it for the fact that I can pin all sorts of recipes and crafty things without having 9 zillion bookmarks. I'm sure that I won't make half the things I pin but they're still not languishing as bookmarks on my computer. P.S. I'm now following you. Do you feel stalked, yet?

I've been hooked for a while now. I cannot believe some of the stuff on there that people think are good ideas and then there is the stuff that i'm all "OMG, I MUST MAKE THIS!" and I feel slightly crafty for a bit. (but only for a bit, because... this is me and I don't craft).

@Jess: I have that exact same reaction sometimes. I'm like, What the hell? Why the fuck would I spend my day making a toilet roll cover from repurposed tampon strings????

@Janie Emaus: :) I felt the same way until I dived in a bit and started using it. Basically, it's my way to replace bookmarking. I have an endless supply of useless bookmarks because I can't remember what they are. pinterest solved that!
